ABSURDITY ILLUSTRATED.

Bizarre dreamlike visions finally have been illustrated into a comic strip.  At last an artist that feeds my dark and random sense of humor.

California born artist Lisa Hanawalt may be a comedic genius.  Her imagination is weird, beautiful, dirty, wicked, twisted and brilliant. Lisa is a master of anthropomorphism and is a production designer of Bojack Horseman, a new original animated series for Netflix.  Her book “My Dirty Dumb Eyes” is a collection of hilarious short comic strips that showcase all sorts of interesting glances into a world of what dogs really want, animals in hats, rumors of Anna Wintour and the secret life of chefs.  Lisa is creating a comic for my weird adult sensibilities and is constantly surprising me with new and hilarious material.

HA HA. VERY PUNNY.

My love for a good pun will never die.  I can’t get enough of hearing the groans people make after you say a clever pun, it truly is priceless.  Sometimes puns could be so bad/good they can hurt.
South African graphic designer and illustrator Jaco Haasbroek puns beautifully.  He has a great sense of humor and illustrates it perfectly.  His witty humor and adorable characters will surely put a smile on any face.

Here’s an illustration that Ron Swanson would appreciate.

FOOD HAVE FEELINGS TOO YOU KNOW!

Playing around with clay is super fun.  When I was a little girl loved sculpting little tiny meals for my dolls.  Granted they never looked as good as the pre-made plastic foods that Mattel manufactured.  But for a girl that couldn’t afford the expensive stuff these tiny mediocre clay foods were acceptable for my Barbies. After college i began to experiment with polymer clay and created miniature food shaped earrings and charms and even got a chance to do the craft fair/flea market circuit.  I had a great time creating these tiny detailed pieces but it sure does take lots and lots of work.  I really appreciate how much effort goes into these sculpts.

Husband and wife team Liz and Jimmy Reed are Cuddles and Rage. This creative duo creates some pretty spectacular work. Whether its sculpting or drawing comics these two have an eye for the wacky and for the witty.  These little sculpted dioramas take up a life and story of their own.  The subtle expression on each characters faces are amazing.  I am still baffled by how they get that killer texture on the clay,  it’s really quite mind blowing.

This is how doughnuts get their sprinkles.

The chocolate sauce looks so realistic on this ice cream sundae its pretty amazing.  Be careful if you keep this out in front of kids or your buddies that have the munchies.

This pancake breakup is super sad.  I’m sure most of could relate to crying tears of butter, especially Paula Deen.

This corn dog drama is a reoccurring comic on Cuddles and Rage.  I like to see all the drama unfold, its like a morning soap opera.

P IS FOR PIZZA

Pizza and parties go hand in hand.  Crazy fun to eat and as far as food goes its pretty damn interesting to look at.   Basic shapes, colorful toppings and of course drippy melty cheese. Pizza could be an illustrators dream come true .   Doodling little pizzas sound like a good time to me.

Japanese artist Kimiaki Yaegashi a.k.a. Okimi, created a series featuring pizza.  These paintings also have a hot chick wearing a bikini, a naked baby, a cat, a bird/turtle/fish man and a Tengu.  In Japanese folk culture the Tengu is a legendary mountain goblin that often represents vanity and pride.  There’s a Japanese expression, ‘Tengu ni naru,’ which means, ‘He’s turning into a Tengu,’ used when describing a person who is arrogant, proud or conceited.

Now, the meaning of all these characters (including the pizza) on each of these drawings is up to you.  These make me so happy, I cant help but giggle. They are abstract, wacky and beautiful.

A slice of pizza in your underpants?  On your boobies?  Over your eyes?  What about putting your head through it?

Genius.
