PICASSO MY FAVORITE MOVIES.

It’s interesting how a strange abstract outline can immediately process into a meaningful image to us. Pablo Picasso was a master at drawing a bunch of abstract shapes and somehow our brains make it into something.  Sometimes realistic representations can be a tad boring or a bit contrived.  Anytime an artist takes creative license to create something new I love the hell out of it. Italian artist Ale Giorgini creates really rad minimalist and abstract art based on pop culture figures….actually some of my favorite movies and characters!

A SOFTHEARTED NERD.

Illustrator Nan Lawson has a style that I can only describe as “sweetheart nerd”. Her pieces combine a soft and sweet quirky flair to recognizable pop culture figures. She has a unique style of portraiture and character busts.  What I love about her work is the cute way she draws characters with their eyes closed.  Its a  soft, peaceful and meditative feeling.  These characters come to life with the detailed line work and lovely use of color.

Here we have Mr. Fox from Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox

This is Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones.

Sherlock Holmes

Here is Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation pondering the meaning of life over this burger. Which I oftentimes do as well.

An adorable spin on Adventure Time.

Here there is a series called “the little ones”. These drawings have the semi creepy doll dot eyes and can either be interpreted as eerie or cute, or maybe a little of both. This is Harry Potter, obv.

Margot Tenenbaum, from the Royal Tenenbaums. Arguably my favorite Wes Anderson movie.

We all know macaroons are little cloud puffs from heaven.

Then there’s this little guy. I can truly relate to this. All day every day.

PLAY ON WORDS PLAY WITH MY HEART.

Greek artist and t-shirt designer Teo Zirinis is the clever mind behind HandsOffMyDinosaur!
His art has a great blend of puns, pop culture references and whimsy.
Whether its inanimate objects doing something silly, a play on words or your favorite character doing something out of character all of his work is great fun.

Pizzas have scary tales to tell around a campfire too.

The  delicious truth about Bloody Mary.

I’m not sure if I’ll ever look at gumball machines the same again.

The Iron Fry Throne.  Only the one true cheeseburger may rule the seven kingdoms.

Dhalsim brings the heat to this ‘Street Barbecue’.  We all knew E. Honda would come to the party, being a heavy man that enjoys a steak or two.  I’m happy Zangief could make the party as well.

Collecting those crystal blue rupees.

The true danger of burned toast.

A cheesy pun.

“To be, or not to be:  that is the question.”  What else can Skeletor do at Castle Grayskull besides read tons of Shakespeare?

What about Ring Kong?  This play on words is so simple and amazing.  I wonder if Peter Jackson would be down to throw a quick film together.  I would so be there!
