IN THE SMALL DETAILS.

I remember looking at Max Dalton’s ‘Ten Great Years‘ print years ago and considered buying it.  It was only $50 and I’m not sure why I didn’t jump on the opportunity.  Before a blink of an eye it was sold out.  Only a few years have passed and now its worth $1,200.  Oh how the waves of regret washed over me.  Not that I would have sold it anyway.  In my opinion Max Dalton is a modern genius and have been in love with his work since I laid eyes on it.  I like the way he represents the small details of each film.  Its the attention to detail that I think hes so good at.  He did a couple of ‘action figure’ pieces, though I think all of his work feels a little toy-like and action-figurey.  Pure nerd childhood bliss.  His whimsical vibe coincides with Wes Anderson’s vibe, so its no wonder Dalton designed the book cover for Andersons coffee table book (and if you haven’t already purchased it, I recommend it highly it’s absolutely stunning).

PICASSO MY FAVORITE MOVIES.

It’s interesting how a strange abstract outline can immediately process into a meaningful image to us. Pablo Picasso was a master at drawing a bunch of abstract shapes and somehow our brains make it into something.  Sometimes realistic representations can be a tad boring or a bit contrived.  Anytime an artist takes creative license to create something new I love the hell out of it. Italian artist Ale Giorgini creates really rad minimalist and abstract art based on pop culture figures….actually some of my favorite movies and characters!

NERD INTERESTS: COLLECTOR.

Several years ago I became obsessed with collecting art prints from my favorite artists.  I find my favorites online, at gallery openings, at comic-cons and craft fairs.   I like to think of myself as a “collector”.  After running out of space on my walls and money from my wallet I held myself back a bit.  This blog is a great space to share some of the artists I obsess over and work that I will eventually purchase.

One of my favorites would have to be Dave Perillo.  Right after becoming captivated with the show Breaking Bad I found ‘Jesse & Walter’s how to guide to not get rid of a body’ at my favorite Los Angeles Gallery 1988.  I love the step by step detail and the tension from that memorable Breaking Bad episode.  His work captures the essence of a movie spot on with a simple quote like “I’m your density” or “Thats no moon”.

EYE POPPING POP ART.

Pop art has always been a style of art I’ve admired.  Roy Lichenstein, Andy Warhol and Wayne Thiebaud are a few of my favorite artists of all time.  Bright colors, recognizable imagery drawn from popular media and products.  This style of art is a wonderful way to show whats going on in the world we live in.

Grégoire Guillemin, aka “Léon”, is a leader in the “Geek Art” movement.  His work celebrates science fiction, comic books, video games and pop culture icons. Consumerism, lust, gluttony and vanity are things that are explored in Léon work.  His artworks rediscover and reinvent styles through experimentation and a clean minimalist approach.

These pieces are so relevant to our generation.  The series “The Secret Life of Heroes” is just one of his mind blowing series is a that is a hilarious inside look at the hidden, colorful and slightly steamy, life of our most beloved heroes.  So called ‘innocent’ childhood favorites smoking cigarettes, taking selfies with Iphones, picking their nose, holding a gun and groping one another?  So rad!  I mean there’s nothing hotter than Superman eating a cheeseburger.  Mmmm yummy.

HEY NERD! EAT YOUR FRUITS AND VEGGIES!

Graphic designer Darkchoocoolat aka Florent Rousseau has been creating some super fun nerdy art.  8 bit fruits and veggies can brighten up my day.  Pop culture anything always sparks my interest.
You should probably eat five fruits and vegetables a day to be in good health.  Its easy when they look this delicious and adorable.

This health bar is super clever. Not a bad idea if you’d like to see some of your video game characters zombiefied. Something like this would be pretty useful in a game when you’ve died. Plus you gotta think that zombies have different character abilities. Sounds like a fun game to play if you ask me.

What about everybody’s favorite Mario Bros mushroom? What about all your other favorite characters? The Eye of Sauron, Link, Robocop or Darth Vader? Mushrooms have to dress up for Halloween too ya know.

Be careful At-At! Banana peels are dangerous.

Lets not forget about our favorite Breaking Bad scalawag Walter White. Those of us that watched the show know he makes a killer breakfast for Walt Jr so why cant he make a delicious bread?  Actually maybe his bread would taste a little meth-y.

Here’s the kawaii version of the same print. Besides, we all love inanimate objects with little faces.
